Mirror, Mirror, on the wall . . .

Posted on: 26th Jan 2015  /   Categorized: Cress

I have SO MUCH NEWS to share with you all. So let’s get to it.

First up: FAIREST IS OUT TOMORROW.

Fairest_cover Final

Mirror, mirror on the wall, Who is the fairest of them all?

Fans of the Lunar Chronicles know Queen Levana as a ruler who uses her “glamour” to gain power. But long before she crossed paths with Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress, Levana lived a very different story – a story that has never been told . . . until now.

Marissa Meyer spins yet another unforgettable tale about love and war, deceit and death.

(dun dun dun)

In addition to getting to share a bit of background about Levana and her dastardly deeds, I’m super excited about the bonus materials we got to include in this book:

1. An extraordinarily beautiful  illustration of Levana’s palace on the book’s endpapers (so pretty!!)

And 2. The first 3 (count them—3!) chapters of Winter.

ALSO RELEASING TOMORROW: The paperback of Cress!

Speaking of bonus materials, the Cress paperback includes:

– a full-color diagram of the Rampion spaceship on the endpapers, which I think is just the coolest thing ever.

– a special blogger thank you page (thanks, bloggers!)

– a sneak preview of Fairest, including an exclusive poem that I wrote! (I didn’t even know my publisher was doing something with it, so that was a surprise for me, ha.)

– and an interview between me and author Mary Weber (Storm Siren), plus a bonus question from Jay Asher (13 Reasons Why)!

OTHER BIG NEWS… you could win stuff!

There are two great sweepstakes happening right now.

The Lunar Chronicles web site is hosting a sweepstakes in which you could win travel and VIP tickets to BookCon, to meet me! (woo!) Enter at: http://thelunarchronicles.com/sweepstakes

And Shelf Awareness is also having a sweepstakes and 10 winners will each receive a signed copy of Fairest! Enter at: http://apps.shelf-awareness.com/signup/149

(For international fans, stay tuned! I plan on hosting some contests and giveaways myself in the coming weeks.)

AND MY LAST BIG ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE DAY…

I just finished Winter!!

Like, finished, finished. Like, going to copyedits finished.

I might be in shock.

(There are rumors of a particular page count floating around the interweb and I can tell you… yes. Yes, it really is that big.)

I’ll find out how much information I can share about it and hope to have more on that soon.

In the meantime… I need a nap. *falls over*

  2. Oksana Kosarenko commented on:

I’ve heard that Winter is 700+ pages long … and I’m hoping with ALL MY HEART that it is just that big. Or bigger. 😉
Beyond excited to hear Levana’s story at last! *raises champagne glass* TO THE LUNAR CHRONICLES!!!

  3. Sarah commented on:

HUZZAH for ALL THE AWESOME! FAIREST and WINTER and CRESS paperback- HUZZAH! Also, sweepstakes. 😀 I love sweepstakes. 😀

  4. Oksana Kosarenko commented on:

Marissa – I have a question about the ‘signed Fairest copy’ sweepstake – what happens if we lose the personal referral link? I was at the page where we were given the opportunity to send it out, and then stupid, stupid me, I pressed ‘backspace’. And exited the page. And I can’t get back.
    Is this final?

I can’t wait to read Fairest and then Winter! I can’t wait for November!!!!!!!! I need to tell my mom to go to the bookstore to get Fairest and the paperback of Cress tomorrow! Please reveal more information about Winter, I need more information about Cinder & Kai and Cress & Thorne (I don’t know if your supposed to have more then one OTP but I do, deal with it). I can’t wait for the romance (I’m a sucker for romance), there better be plenty of romance in Winter or I don’t know what I’ll do. I’m sad that the series will be over soon! Are you? Keep writing, your one of my favorite authors! I will still love you even if there is not much romance in Winter!

I’m going to desperately try to get to Decatur to see you next week! I need a copy of Fairest so badly and yay for Winter!!! I also need to buy the paperbacks of the series, it’s so cool that Macmillan includes the bloggers. It’s sort of surreal to see it listed in there along with so many others (including my friends).

  7. MichelleRae6 commented on:

Yeah for finishing Winter!!! Keep up the good work!!!

  8. Anid commented on:

I find it confusing (and slightly amusing for some reason) that there are so many editions of the same book. I mean, I read Cinder, Scarlet and Cress all in paperback borrowed from the library in England (oh how I miss it now that I’m back in Spain orz the libraries here are all basically dying, sadly). And now that I want to buy them all, I have so many editions to choose from. Spending money is such a struggle huh.
    Anyway, yey for Winter!

  9. Emma commented on:

OMG I am SO excited for Fairest eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!

And congrats on Winter! Bet you feel AWESOME! Celebrate with some amazingly, too-delicious-to-be-real-life PIE! Pumpkin with whipped cream or banana cream pie, yeah? 😀 xD

  10. Emily commented on:

I just squealed out loud x) This is so exciting! Congrats on everything!! 🙂

  11. Carina commented on:

I can’t wait to get my hands on fairest! And I look forward to the giveaways for the international fans, since I’m from Germany.

  12. Emily commented on:

SO EXCITED for Winter! Loving Fairest so far! And I totally just snagged the first three Lunar Chronicles ebooks on B&N since they’re all 2.99 right now! Love your stories and can’t wait for more from you. 🙂

  13. Sarah commented on:

    Hello Mrs. Meyer!
Wow — lots of news indeed!
Firstly, then, I’m SO thrilled to pick up Fairest hopefully soon; I’m sure it’s a fitting companion prequel to the series.
Secondly — so I have the paperback editions of Cinder and Scarlet, which is why I decided to wait until Cress was put in softcover form to buy it, just so their dimensions match on my bookshelf and whatnot. Fairest, of course, will be hardcover, and so will Winter but I ain’t waiting for paperback release for either of them, nope, I will buy a beautiful hardcover copy as soon as humanly possible and devour them in one sitting. 😉
Can’t wait to see you at your Feb. 2nd event in PhxAZ! Keep writing!

    — Sarah

P.S. Hoping you can later give us more information on Heartless and your new series project? After a nice long nap of course! 🙂

  14. Jacinda Yang commented on:

My Cress paperback arrived in the mail yesterday, and I was so excited I just flipped straight to the special content. I LOVED it! Every bit as exciting as it is made out to be! I’ve already pre-ordered Fairest but I got the paperback- it’s not coming until March :O. I know right, my fangirl feels are going to have to suffer. Can I just congratulate you Mrs Meyer, for completing such a huge project! It must have taken so much effort- which shall all pay off in due time.
    Waiting impaitiently,
    an International Fan.

UGH NO I STILL NEED TO BUY FAIREST

  17. Danielle commented on:

Finished “Fairest” last night. It was so difficult to read, and I won’t add spoilers as why that was. But I will let you know that it was horrible getting only a few chapters of Winter. It was such a mean tease. And fall is so far away! But at least I have time to go back and re-read the other novels. Again.

I hope you enjoyed your nap. You’ve earned it!

  19. Jennifer commented on:

    Dear Ms. Meyer,
In Cress, it is first stated that Emperor Kaito’s grandfather is the one who instituted the cyborg protection act, and later, he tells Cinder that his great-grandfather instituted the act. Which one is it?
    Sincerely,
    Jennifer
    P. S. I know that I posted this elsewhere, but this question has been bothering me.

  20. Your Name commented on:

I’ve read fairest. And yes, yes it is really THAT good. I think it’s the best book I’ve read since Cress (hardcover) came out…

  21. Beatrice commented on:

I finished Fairest a couple days ago, and I have to say that it’s one of the best books I’ve ever read! I was crying so much at the end, but it was SO BEAUTIFUL. Are you going to put a countdown for Winter on here?

  22. Ruth commented on:

Any idea when fairest is released in the UK?

  23. Jessica commented on:

OMG OMG OMG this is it guys!!! Winter is up next!!! This better be a big book how cool would that be winter: a book that never ends!!! Um tho I really hope winter would be a pretty big book cuz I jut can’t get enough of this
And I’m also broken cuz what will I do after this ends?!!

  24. Erin commented on:

So excited to read Fairest! I was always interested to know more about Levana. And congratulations on Winter! It must be such a relief. But NOVEMBER 2015!?…so long… Though I’m sure it will be worth the wait, especially considering this rumoured page count 🙂
Also, have you heard anything at all about the possibility of a Cinder movie?? We have our fingers and toes crossed!

  25. Jasminka commented on:

I can’t wait to read Fairest! I just finished Scarlet and am starting on Cress.
Anyway, I have a few questions for you:

    – Who is your favorite character and why?
    – How long did it take you to write Cress?
    – If you were a wolf-hybrid like Wolf, what would you call yourself?

And is Winter the last book in the series?

  26. Jasminka commented on:

Oh yeah, and I was also wondering about Cinder becoming a movie? I think that would be awesome if it did.

  27. Madelyn commented on:

I know that you are getting this question asked a lot and I know that auditions are completely out of your control, but I would like to know when/if open auditions will be held if Cinder becomes a movie. Auditioning for that movie would be a dream! I love your books and I got Fairest the first day it came out. Please email me back.

  28. Mark Murata commented on:

Um, the link to the BookCon giveaway doesn’t go anywhere?

  29. Jessica C. commented on:

I just finished reading Fairest and I am left with this feeling of…OMG November just won’t come fast enough. Now that I finally know Lavena’s story, I almost feel sympathy. I really hope Winter will tie everything together and give her resolution. I’m a sucker for happy endings…even for the villains.

  30. Mariana commented on:

I can not wait until November if it doesn’t come soon I may die!!!!!!

  31. Aleah commented on:

OMG!!!! Im so excited I’ve been so excited for this

  32. Aleah commented on:

  33. Erika commented on:

  34. Erika commented on:

    Dear ms/mrs. Meye

I enjoy writing so I figured out a long time ago that im goin to be a writer, but I really want to know if an author is required to knoe math. Like if I am terrible will I still succeed in a writing career please let me know, I googled it but I wanted to ask a real successful author.
Ps. Also your books are sooo AWSOME, how in the world did u ever come up with the idea to mix fairytales and future science fiction? And actually pull it off, plz tell me

  35. Lindsey commented on:

    SO EXCITED!

  36. Your Name commented on:

OMS i cant wait for winter !!! Im gonna fall over dead! Wait no i will read winter and fall over dead after i read it bcz the series will be over 🙁

  37. Tenzin Pema commented on:

Which celebrities would you pick for the characters in Cinder if it became a movie? 😀

  38. May commented on:

Oh man… I live your books but tbh Thorne is the only character I care about for the most part. Is reading Fairest essential to reading Winter, or is it just like “Oh haha right they said that in Fairest”?
