Fierce Reads Spotlight: Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne (out June 5)

Last but not least in my Fierce Reads spotlights is MONUMENT 14 by Emmy Laybourne, which comes out June 5! This is another one that I can personally vouch for: It is smart and intense with a Lord of the Flies – meets – The Apocalypse vibe.

It also answers that question that I KNOW I’m not the only person to ask: Could I survive if I was trapped in a Target for, like, a really long time?

Fourteen kids. One superstore. A million things that go wrong.

In Emmy Laybourne’s action-packed debut novel, six high school kids (some popular, some not), two eighth graders (one a tech genius), and six little kids trapped together in a chain superstore build a refuge for themselves inside. While outside, a series of escalating disasters, beginning with a monster hailstorm and ending with a chemical weapons spill, seems to be tearing the world—as they know it—apart.

“Actress/screenwriter Laybourne’s debut ably turns what could have been yet another postapocalyptic YA novel into a tense, claustrophobic, and fast-paced thriller.” Read the full (starred!) review from Publisher’s Weekly here.

Book trailer time!

Also, I highly recommend this eerie prequel – it’s a great introduction to what the world is facing in the book: “Dress Your Marines in White”
